Fulcrum Racing Heritage

We train, sweat, climb, sprint and lift our arms in the air with them. From our very beginning, Fulcrum’s ties with cycling’s champions have been indissoluble. The best road racing teams want the best equipment. We respond with cutting edge products, that guarantee the highest levels of performance, allowing us to celebrate their victories with them. It’s in our DNA and the core value of our #fulcrumfast philosophy.
A quick look at our palmarès speaks for itself. Alongside the champions riding for World Tour level teams, cycling’s Premier League, in fifteen years we have won four World Championships, two Giro d’Italia, twelve Classics, twenty five stages of the Giro d’Italia, seventeen stages of the Tour de France and twenty one stages of the Vuelta a Espana. If we include the Pro Tour level teams, our Giro d’Italia stage wins jump to twenty seven, as well as numerous wins in other national and international races. A journey that has taken us along the world’s roads, race after race and stage after stage, together with our teams.

It all began in 2005, a mere year after the company and the Fulcrum team were founded, when we entered the world of the pros. And we started with a bang: four consecutive World Championships won by riders on bikes rolling on our Racing Speed wheels. In 2005 the Belgian powerhouse Tom Boonen, became the first rider to score the coveted hat-trick in the same season, by winning Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix and the rainbow jersey.
In 2006 and 2007 it was Paolo Bettini’s turn and in 2008, in Varese, Alessandro Ballan became the last Italian to win the World Championship road race. Bettini and Boonen both rode for the Quick Step-Innergetic team, which collected other great successes. In 2005 Bettini won his first Giro di Lombardia and the Australian Michael Rogers won another World Championship title, against the clock this time. In 2006 Filippo Pozzato won Milan-Sanremo, Boonen won his second Tour of Flanders and Bettini won the Italian Road Title and his second Giro di Lombardia. In 2007 Giovanni Visconti won the Italian road title. Amongst these victories there were seven stages at the Tour de France, three at the Giro d’Italia and three at the Vuelta a Espana.

In those years Ballan rode for the Lampre team, with which we won the 2011 Giro, awarded to Michele Scarponi, after Alberto Contador’s retroactive disqualification due to his positive test for a banned substance. Scarponi, also known as The Eagle of Filottrano, was an unforgettable rider who left us too soon. Our partnership with Lampre was also very successful: in 2007 Ballan won the Tour of Flanders, Damiano Cunego won the Giro di Lombardia and Marzio Bruseghin won the Italian Time Trial Championships. In 2008 Damiano Cunego won the Amstel Gold Race and his second Giro di Lombardia. In the Grand Tours there were five stages at the Tour de France, thirteen at the Giro d’Italia and thirteen at the Vuelta a Espana.

In 2007 we partnered the Liquigas team and won our second Giro d’Italia with Danilo Di Luca. On his way to winning the overall title, he also won three stages, including the opening team time trial. That season Di Luca also won Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the team took a stage at the Tour de France. The following year they won four stages at the Giro d’Italia and one at the Vuelta a Espana.

From 2007 to 2009 we also supplied equipment to the French Cofidis team, who won two stages at the Tour de France and three at the Vuelta a Espana.

In more recent times we come to our successful partnership with the greatest contemporary Italian champion: Vincenzo Nibali. In 2017 Nibali, nicknamed the Shark of the Strait, joined the Bahrain-Merida team and won the Tour of Lombardy, one stage at the Giro d’Italia and one at the Vuelta a Espana. The following year, with an unforgettable move, he won Milan-Sanremo and the team took one stage at the Giro d’Italia. In 2019 the team won two stages at the Tour de France, one of which by the Sicilian rider, Nibali.

Over the last fifteen years some of the best road racing champions have ridden Fulcrum wheels. We share their same passion and commitment to always do better. Receiving feedback from our athletes is a continuous and essential part of the process, which allows us to constantly improve our wheels. In 2020 we’re going to continue taking part in the international cycling calendar, by once again partnering with the World Tour Cofidis team. Their leading rider is the Olympic track champion and European road champion, Elia Viviani. We’re ready for new victories and for the new challenges that the future holds for us.
